15 to 20 March 2009 - A Trip to Torridon

Dave admires the view from Sgurr Mòr, the 986 metre summit of Beinn Alligin,
and the highest point reached by Dave and me this week

This brief entry wraps up this first Scottish trip of the year. The image below shows the venues of the first four walks enjoyed by Dave O and me, the fifth being further south in Kintail.

To view all the daily entries, to which a few images have been added, (chronologically from the bottom of the page), click here.

There's also a web page here, summarising what we did (72 km, 5470 metres ascent) and providing a few additional panoramic images.

Enjoy...

What a wonderful trip you had there. Some view that in the photo.

Yes Martin, it's one of my favourite views. We spent a lot of time admiring the views last Thursday. Beinn Alligin has everything for a walker who wants a 'medium' day out with a little very easy (optional) scrambling.

All these reports and beautiful photographs have just got me in the mood for our holiday up there in July, I can't wait! If we could only have the weather you've had. It's been wet and windy for the previous three years, not much fun in a palatial family tent, but we still have to go back for more!

You've given me some ideas for while we're there, more to think about and plan.

Looks like a fab few days.
Must do Ben Alligin.... I've never yet seen it from behind it's curtain of rain.
I'm not jealous (gnash gnash....) [reviews plans to walk dogs in hamsterley Forest....]

It's a great area, Louise, with some excellent low level routes for those rare bad weather days - the coastal path to Craig and beyond, the path around the back of Liathach, and the circuit around Beinn Damh, to name just three.
Mike, you can't have been there very often - the curtain of rain is usually over Liathach and Beinn Eighe, leaving Alligin free of cloud even on poor days - that's how I come to have been up it so often - never in the mist so far as I can recall. A brilliant mountain.
BTW Sorry about the gnashing - suggest you get a spare set soon!

Fine report and piccies indeed Martin. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it all. When I was last there on my Lejog the weather was absolutely perfect too... A wonderful spot.

I am jealous, very jealous! Looks like you had a splendid trip. Hope that the weather is that good when I am in the part of the world in a few weeks!

I'm sure you'll have a good trip, James, even if you get the odd shower. My Torridon trip was 'opportunistic'. Tune in in a week's time for an update on the conditions up there - I understand it looks very snowy just now!
