Saturday 16 June 2018 – Wythenshawe parkrun Number 343

Damp but not muddy. Near perfect conditions and a leering Cromwell greeted today’s 313 runners.

Run Director for the day, Alan, behaved impeccably. Perhaps he felt he was being assessed by ‘HQ’!

Even the barking dogs were quiet (for once) during his briefing.

I volunteered as Tail Walker and enjoyed the amiable pace set by Victoria and Samantha, finishing in a smidging over an hour. The picture below shows the Tail Walker’s view from near the start.

Results are here. Curiously the ‘event history’ link shows me as ‘Unknown’, whereas the ‘latest results’ page has me recorded properly. No matter.

It was another long session in the Courtyard Tea Room. Today we were joined by a team from ‘HQ’, shown below with some of our Run Directors and random hangers-on. We hope they enjoyed their visit.

Meanwhile, Mick was busy trying to clock up as many steps as possible before an excuse sets in. (Here.)

We now suspect that whilst typing your previous post, you were sticking pins in the leg of a voodoo doll of Mick. Four km or so through yesterday's ParkRun his recurring calf problem recurred again. Needless to say, given our plans, he is very annoyed indeed.

Nooooo - I wouldn't do that to Mick, though are you sure this isn't just a feeble excuse as he slips back down the rankings?!

Hopefully a bit of TLC will return him to 'normal'.

I reckon your run director's disciplined day was due to that stern fellow with a sword watching on from the top of that tock. Reminds me of Inspection Division at the bank where I worked when they would turn up unannounced, demand your office keys and turnover your branch and destroy your morale in a stroke.

Yes, that's 'leering Cromwell, always keeping a close eye on the events at Wythenshawe....

Not quite as brutal as your 'Inspector Division' though!

Why would he need to make excuses, feeble or otherwise? He runs and walks because he enjoys it and he does it to the extent that he enjoys. He does not do either activity for his position in the Fitbit league - as should be quite clear to you. Hence he's mightily annoyed to be injured again not because you will overtake him, back to your regular position, but because he's not going to be able to do the things he wants to do for the next few weeks.

Sorry Gayle, I was joking really (in poor taste I'm afraid), and I do know how annoying it is to pick up the same injury again and again. It's of no comfort, but I'm also prone to a calf injury that stops me from running, and I was with JJ today who has just picked up a similar injury. I hope Mick recovers quickly - it must be really annoying for both of you.
My apologies to you both.
