I have been walking for ages in some trainer type ankle boots with waterproof lining and my feet remain as dry as they ever have done. However, after traversing a steep hillside a couple of walks ago my feet were squashed sideways in that footwear and it was decidedly painful. So for the last couple of walks I switched back to my Zamberlan boots because I have been back on higher moorland trods and the like, and the advantage is well noticeable.
