Ottawa to Mooney's Bay and beyond (a walk) - 16 km, 100 metres ascent, 4 hours 29 mins including 1 hour 30 mins stops.
On a rainy day in Ottawa, Sue and Susan chose to indulge themselves at the Nordic spa in Chelsea. They kindly dropped me off in town. After a bit of sight seeing, shopping and lunch, I walked back home via the Rideau Canal and Mooney's Bay. The paths were wet and slippery in the warm temperatures (+6°C) and skiing wouldn't have been that enjoyable today.
A few snaps were taken en route:
The Supreme Court
Parliament Buildings
A War Memorial
The Art Gallery and Spider
An Ice Sculpture
The Rideau Canal - closed today on account of the high temperatures
What are the local maps like, say compared with our OS?
ReplyDeleteThe map we use is a 1:25000 on one side and 1:50000 on the other side - map of Gatineau Park's winter trails with 10 metre contours, produced by the National Capital Commission.
ReplyDeleteA different map is needed for the summer, as in European ski areas.
Maps are to OS standard.
On last summer's trip we used a variety of maps, mostly free or large scale maps of the areas we walked in, and sometimes we just relied on a guide book overview as the paths were more obvious and easier to follow than in the UK.
