Friday 13 September 2024 - The Pennine Bridleway Around Waterfoot

Some parts of the Pennine Bridleway are more attractive than others! This 2.5km section from BRGS, where we were allocated to pick up grandson Jacob from school, was the best we could find today. It runs alongside the infant River Irwell and at one point passes through a factory.

The walk took us down to Waterfoot, and beyond the war memorial, returning the same way past a couple of giant winnebago vehicles. How do they fit on our roads?! A pleasant enough outing whilst we waited for school chuck out time.

This is where we joined the Pennine Bridleway before heading downstream behind the photographer. The route upstream takes you up through the tunnel above Sue's head, towards Bacup. We have done the whole route in the past with the grandchildren. (See here.)

Thursday 6 April 2023 - Bacup, and a Climbing Wall

This posting is probably only of interest to family members.

Kate's Easter holiday didn't quite coincide with Jacob and Jessica's, so various grandparents were called in to assist, all of them being fleeced for cash, cards, games, etc. I suppose there has to be some compensation for having to spend the days with boring old farts!

We all managed a lie-in, and Jacob was happy enough playing Fortnite and other games.

We went to the Adrenaline Centre in Haslingden. A good spot to let off a bit of steam, with Sue joining in and me in charge of the camera (and coffees).

I also took some videos. They don't seem to want to upload here, so I've resorted to YouTube.
I haven't used YouTube for years, so that's a bit of an experiment.
(It may have worked!)
Family members should find the videos in their Dropbox file link.

Back in Bacup, Oscar the dog had gone on holiday whilst we were out, but I went on the 5km walk with a 'virtual dog' instead, going as far as the big chimney in Whitworth, and the Bacup loopline.
