Our plan to go high today faltered at the sight of a weather forecast that predicted rain sometime soon after 11am.
So we decided on a 12km walk taking in the three villages that surround the arena of meadows at around 1000 metres, the Zugspitze Arena.
After a hearty breakfast we left the hotel, pictured above, at around 9am.
The scenic route soon had us on nice paths on a panoramic walk between Ehrwald and Biberwier.
A large erratic here is home to a mature pine tree.
Soon we got good views down to the villages.
A pretty chapel came into view on the outskirts of Biberwier. We investigated it just before the arrival of a large coach party.
The meadow by the chapel was full of Autumn Crocuses.
Down in Biberwier a large chess set would have been enticing if Sue knew how to play.
Anyway, we enjoyed our elevenses on a bench outside the church, which is in the process of being renovated.
We were soon climbing past a small chapel, Olberg Kapelle, en route to a very nice path all the way to Lermoos.
A minor viewpoint offered a good look back to Biberwier.
This bracket fungus may be known as 'Hoof Fungus'.
A couch on a slatted bench sitting on a large spring made for a very comfortable few minutes.
Many of the properties around here sport colourful window boxes. One even had its flowers protected from storms by way of mini umbrellas.
By now it was 11:30 and a light drizzle slowly mutated into steady rain as we passed through Lermoos.
The Chocolate Arion slugs seemed to enjoy the rain.
During the walk, many pictures of flowers were taken. As previously mentioned these will be collated in a separate posting.
Eventually we found ourselves the other side of the arena, strolling in the rain back to Hotel Sonnenspitze via the Spar shop for a few provisions.
Fortunately our room has a full size kettle and lots of tea bags (arranged by Collett's after a call from Sue), so we could enjoy lunch in room 309 before writing up these notes.
Here's our route - about 12km with 250 metres ascent, taking us about a very leisurely (wait until you see all the flower pictures!) four hours.
Other Collett's clients arrived back later, soaked through.
